Reasons Why Christmas & I Don’t Get Along

SorryNotSorry.

1. The music is too jolly. And it’s the same exact music every single year. Talk about monotonous. And I feel like it’s forcing me to be jolly. NO. I refuse to be forced into feeling the “spirit of the season” for the entire month of December.

2. Poor UPS and retail workers. I have successful dodged the retail game thus far in my life. (#Hallelujah) There lives in my heart, a very special place for all of those who must work retail during the holiday season. The UPS guys deserve golden medals. Like real gold. They’re the mvps, but they shouldn’t have to be. Delivering until 9pm even on Christmas Eve, ugh. Poor guys should be at home next to a fire on Christmas Eve not delivering last minute presents to our doorsteps.

3. Everyone gets a little fatter. Like all of a sudden every dish on the table includes 2 sticks of butter, 5 cups of sour cream and a block of cheese. It’s an orgasm in a pan but it will take me 10 days on the stair master to work it off.

4. SO commercialized. I feel like this needs no explanation. Welcome to the US of A.

5. Over-hyped. Seriously we have created month long countdowns for Christmas day. And then we wake up that morning. Eagerly eat breakfast and then spend thirty minutes opening presents and spend the rest of the day playing on whatever new type of technology was in our stocking.

*To avoid this*

We must make Christmas about the people we spend it with. Spend time playing games, making memories, giving gratitude and getting to know each other.

6. Two months of slush and sadness. After Christmas there are two months of dirty slush, ice, negative temps and dark days starting at 4pm. And it’s hard for me to not blame Christmas for that.

Don’t get me wrong, when we do Christmas the right way it’s an incredibly beautiful and profound time of the year. It’s joyous and special. But when we fall into the trap society and capitalism has set for us, Christmas can suck.
